Families & street violence

Families of young people involved in gangs and street violence often need somewhere to turn. Our youth conflict workers provide support for such families.

The desperation many parents feel as they watch their child slip into offending behaviour is very real. Community Resolve offers parents a chance to talk through their fears and experiences, and to think about how to deal with family relationships, agencies and the youth justice system.

Young parents

Many young parents face internal and external conflicts due to changed circumstances brought on by parenthood.

Our group sessions encourage them to
explore the massive changes in their lives. Through reflecting on their experiences and interactions with others, young parents develop an increased capacity to manage their relationships positively.

Crucial conversations

During the teen years, relationships between young people and parent/s can become extremely strained.

This intergenerational pilot provides the family with two trained facilitators - one older, one younger - when communication breaks down. Everyone is encouraged to reflect on their own contribution to the situation, and think about how to manage future communication better.

The process enables parent/s and young people to say what they need to say to move their relationship forward.

Space for Asian women facing home pressures to talk safely in depth to others with similar experiences.

This group is led by a trained conflict practitioner from the Asian community, who has herself experienced many of the pressures that women face in their daily lives.
